   • 日程及び会議の主な議題
     

     The Academy of Sciences of Hong Kong，The Royal Society，U.S. National Academy of Sciences，U.S. National Academy of Medicineが主催し，組織委員会（David Baltimore博士が委員長）が運営の上，ゲノム編集技術を活用した研究や臨床応用に関連する課題を様々な観点から議論した。会議は３日間行われ，最終日にとりまとめた声明が発表された。以下，各日程で議論されたセッショントピックを記す。

   • 会議における審議内容・成果
     

     Day1の“Update: Governmental Actions and Advisory Opinions Regarding Human Genome Editing”セッションで日本におけるヒト受精胚の取扱い関する考え方から現行の関連法令について説明し，特にヒト受精胚に対するゲノム編集技術を応用した研究については，日本学術会議でまとめた提言が国の指針策定へ貢献したことを報告した。同セッションでは７つの国・地域からのスピーカーが各報告後会議参加者とともにグローバルな取り決めなどについて議論した。

   • 会議において日本が果たした役割
     

     会議全体を通して，ヒト受精胚など研究対象として慎重な取扱いを有する際の日本の法令，ヒト胚に関する考え方やゲノム編集研究応用など先端生命科学と社会とのあり方public engagement の取組などを周知することができその上で各国と議論を深めることができた。

   • その他特筆すべき事項（共同声明や新聞等で報道されたもの等）
     

     ・本会議で中国の研究者（Dr. Jiankui He）がゲノム編集技術を受精卵へ施し双子の女児を得たと報告した。日本でも各メディアで報道された。本件を受け，日本学術会議は，断じて容認できないとの声明を発表した（「ゲノム編集による子ども」の誕生についての日本学術会議幹事会声明）。
