Contributions to International Academic OrganizationsJapanese
Science Council of Japan(SCJ) is affiliated with major international academic organizations, including ISC (International Science Council) and IAP (InterAcademy Partnership). In order to respond to the activities of these international academic organizations, SCJ has established various subcommittees under the Committee for International Affairs and/or the Committees Based on Fields of Specialties.
Appointment of Vice President HIBIYA Junko as Co-Chair of the Advisory Council of the ISC Regional Focal Point for Asia and the Pacific (April 2026)
Vice President HIBIYA Junko (Professor Emerita, International Christian University) has been appointed Co-Chair of the Advisory Council of the ISC Regional Focal Point for Asia and the Pacific.
This Council, based at the Australian Academy of Science, serves as a hub for convening the scientific community in the Asia–Pacific region and for promoting the activities of ISC members and other initiatives in the region. The term of office is two years, from 2026 to 2028.

InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) General Assembly 2025
From December 8 to 11, 2025, the triennial General Assembly of the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) and related meetings were held in Cairo, Egypt.
The related meetings were held under the theme “Bridging Science, Policy and Society in an Era of Transformation” and were hosted by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) of Egypt.
From the Science Council of Japan, Member ODANAKA and Associate Member KANO participated in the meetings and engaged in exchanges of views with IAP officers and senior representatives of academies from various countries.
Election of Prof. ODANAKA Naoki as a Member of an IAP Standing Committee (August 7, 2025)
Following organizational reforms within the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP), elections for officers were conducted, and Dr. Naoki ODANAKA (Professor, Graduate School of Economics, Tohoku University), Secretary of Section I of the Science Council of Japan, was elected as a member of Communication, Education and Outreach Committee.
This committee is one of the three standing committees that constitute the Development and Programme Committee, which is responsible for deliberating and promoting core IAP activities. The committee consists of ten members, and the term of office is three years, beginning on December 11, 2025.

The 3rd General Assembly of the International Science Council (ISC)
The 3rd General Assembly of the International Science Council (ISC) was held on January 29–30, 2025, in Muscat, Oman. President MITSUISHI attended the meeting on behalf of the Science Council of Japan.
At the meeting of Category 2 members (national academies, etc.), President MITSUISHI introduced the ISC Platform Meeting, which is organized under the leadership of the Science Council of Japan as a forum for information sharing and collaboration among Japan-based members of ISC-affiliated international scientific organizations and members of relevant committees of the Science Council of Japan. He also exchanged views with ISC Governing Board members and representatives of academies from various countries.
International Academic Organizations
As part of its efforts to facilitate scientific development, SCJ also sends delegates to international conferences and events hosted by these organizations with an eye to building stronger bonds with academic societies across the globe and promoting international exchanges about scientific research.
