For the declaration of SCJ "Towards Dialogue with Society"

May 21, 2004

 Science Council of Japan hold the symposium “To foster the public understanding and awareness of science and technology” today.

 Against the background of citizens’ tendency to be kept away from science and technology in recent years, distinguished lecturers and panelists discuss actively what scientists should do to acquire the mutual awareness of science and technology with society, especially to make children who bear the humankind’s future have dreams of science and technology.

 As described in the declarations of the Science Council of Japan “Towards Dialogue with Society”, the Science Council of Japan, as the organization representing Japanese scientific community, will launch actions “Project Science X” for development of public awareness and confidence in science and technology that each scientist talks with local primary and secondary schools and local communities involves actively in education and science center projects, and communicates importance of science and dreams of science with citizens and children.
