Holding of international conferences and symposia
International conference
International conference in the presence of Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress
Since 2003,SCJ has hosted an international symposium annually on "science and technology for sustainability" to prepare recommendations on roles of scientists. In September 2006, a symposium was held in Kyoto under the theme of "global innovation and ecosystem."
Since 1953,SCJ has hold international conferences of great academic importance in Japan jointly with domestic academies and research institutes, usually in the presence of Imperial Family members. In 2006, eight international conferences took place. The 20th International Congress of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in June was attended by the Crown Prince and The 16th International Microscope Congress in September by the Emperor and Empress.

Science Council of Asia (SCA)
The Science Council of Asia (SCA),an international academic organization founded in 2000, comprises 20 academies and other scientific bodies from 12 Asian countries. It promotes discussions and joint research on scientific development and cooperation in Asia.
The 11th conference was held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia in July 2011.

Joint G8 Academies’ Statements
【Canada 2010】
 Ahead of the G8 Muskoka Summit to be held in Canada during 25th and 26th June 2010, the science academies of the G8 member countries finalized the Joint G8 Science Academies’ Statements on “Health of Women and Children” and “Innovation for Development” to deliver toward the leaders of the G8 Summit countries. Professor Ichiro Kanazawa, President of Science Council of Japan (SCJ) handed the joint-statements in person to Mr. Yukio Hatoyama, Prime Minister of Japan, on 27th May this year.

【Italy 2009】
 Ahead of the G8 L’Aquila Summit to be held in Italy during 8th and 10th July 2009, the science academies of the G8 member nations and the 5 countries (Brazil, China, India, Mexico and the South Africa) finalized the G8+5 Academies’ joint-statement “Climate changes and the transformation of energy technologies for a low carbon future” to deliver toward the leaders of the G8 Summit member countries. Professor Ichiro Kanazawa, President of SCJ, handed the joint-statement to Mr. Taro Aso, Prime Minister of Japan, on 11th June this year, followed by the official announcement of the joint-statement in the nations worldwide on the same day.

G8 Academies’ Meeting 2008 was held in Tokyo
G8 Academies’ Meeting 2008 was held in Tokyo
  During March 17 and 18, the G8 Academies’ Meeting was held in Tokyo. In the meeting, the representatives from the academies of 13 countries (including those of G8) and the relevant organization were participated. From SCJ, the host academy for this year, Prof. Ichiro Kanazawa (President), Prof. Hideaki Karaki (Chairperson of Subcommittee for the G8 Academies’ Meeting) and many other relevant members took part. In the meeting, various discussions were made for the two themes (“Climate Change” and “Global Health”) of the draft joint-statements. After the refinement process during the meeting, the joint-statements is scheduled for fine adjustment based on further comments from the academies and then for submission to the leaders of the relevant governments before the G8 Summit Meeting. On the last day of the meeting, a remark was made by the delegate from the academy of Italy (Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei) to express the intension to host the meeting next year, with which the participants from the other academies were all in agreement.
