28-30 January 2008 The 8th annual meeting for the IAC Board

The 8th annual meeting of the IAC Board was held at the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences in Amsterdam on 28-30 January 2008. The Board is composed of representatives of 15 academies of science and equivalent organizations.
Professor Ichiro Kanazawa, President of Science Council of Japan (SCJ), and Professor Hideaki Karaki, Chairperson of Section II (Chairperson of the Subcommittee on Science Academies of G8 countries) and Mr. Masatoshi Tsunaki, Deputy Director-General attended the meeting. The board members discussed the issues including follow-up to IAC Report
"Transitions to Sustainable Energy Systems" published in October last year
and its new project "Surveillance of infectious diseases", as well as reviewed
the reports from its partner organizations, such as ICSU and IAP, and others.
As Science Council of Japan takes a leadership role in holding the G8 Academies'
Meeting in March this year, and then in settling the Academies' joint-statements toward the G8 Summit, Professor Kanazawa delivered his speech about the proposed themes for
the joint science academies' statements.
