About 70 participants from 10 member countries, and major international, regional and national scientific organizations participated in the General Assembly.  In the Academic Symposium there were about 200 participants, and in the academic events including SCA Joint Projects Workshops there were about 50 participants each.   

At the beginning of the Academic Symposium, Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology delivered the welcome speech.  The Symposium was composed of three sessions: 1: “Bioscience for Environment and Agriculture”, 2: “Bioscience for Health”, and 3 “SCA Joint Projects”. The former two sessions had one keynote lecture and invited lectures, respectively.  At the session 3, “SCA Joint Projects”, two progress reports and two new proposals were presented.

During the conference, several academic events were held in parallel.  They were: General Assembly Special Session as an occasion of experiences and views exchange among member countries; workshops on several SCA Joint Projects; Poster Session on the environment and tsunamis; and A-IMBN (Asia-Pacific International Molecular Biology Network) SCA joint Bio symposium in Hanoi.

At the General Assembly, three proposals on gender, hydrology, and natural hazards were authorized as the SCA Joint Projects.  These projects are expected to deliver their outputs quickly.  There were the special lectures on various topics by the observer organizations of this conference, ICSU (International Council of Science), National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, Japan, and UNU-IAS (United Nations University, Institute of Advanced Studies) and Director-General of the Science Council of Japan.
